Yesterday’s race was 170km on a 13km circuit, flat and fast with a good bit of left and right. I wasn’t on a super day, my achilles started flaring up about an hour in and I started having trouble holding position; I couldn’t sprint out of the corners properly without my ankle hurting so I would lose spots coming out of the turns and then have to work to move back up. It was 2 steps forward and 1 step back all day which made things tough. It started to rain for the last few laps which saw a good bit of drifting taking place in the turns. I was feeling good again going into the finale, but with 10km there was a mass pile up that we had to wait behind. 35 guys had got around it and had a gap with the peloton a bit behind, it was getting closer and with 3 or 4 k to I followed an attack and got a gap surfing through a few chicanes with a small group. We almost closed the gap to the front group but didn’t quite make it and I finished 38th or something.
Now, I’ve got to take it easy and hope this ankle gets better before Sunday where I race the UCI 1.2 Ronde Van Midden Nederland. Its a special race and in the back yard of the team so I’d like to go well there.
